How 1v1 Football is Helping Young Ballers Level Up Their Game

1v1 Football is an Ontario based soccer training program that’s helping young soccer players develop several aspects of their game like confidence, technique, agility and conditioning. In this interview, we’ll learn how 1v1 Football got started and their plans for growth in the future.

Q: Tell us a bit about 1v1 and what inspired you to get started?
R: Sometime in the middle of February, I was driving home from coaching my team in Aurora, Ontario. There was a blizzard outside, and I asked myself, “How can these players train in this weather”. That’s when the idea for 1v1 Football hit me. I thought to myself, what if we brought training sessions to players, instead of players travelling to training sessions? It’ll certainly put less stress on parents, players will get quality training, and it’ll be cost effective!

Q: Your mission is to help young footballers develop confidence on the ball. Can you expand on that a little bit more?

R: You see, throughout a player’s career, there are always moments when you doubt yourself and your ability. A loss of confidence happens in those moments. It’s all mental, but I can definitely speak on behalf of the team at 1v1, that when we were younger and playing, what gave us that big confidence boost was training. Training wasn’t just three times a week with our club team, but rather an EVERYDAY thing. Additional training is what got us through those tough times.

Q: What are some of the biggest challenges you've found that players have before deciding to go through 1v1 programs?

R: One of the biggest challenges I’ve found players face is a lack of attention. They don’t get enough attention during their regular team training sessions because there are too many players on the field, and usually 1 or 2 coaches. So, players don’t get told what they’re doing right, and more importantly, what they’re doing wrong.

Q: How are the training programs currently delivered?

R: Right now we offer private 1-on-1 training sessions, group training sessions, and our most popular training method – the 1v1 8-week digital program.

Q: What have the reactions to the training programs been like from players and parents so far?

R: We have reviews on our website and on our social media platforms @1v1Footie. But so far, what I hear from most of our players is that they’re getting more touches in one training session with 1v1Football, than in an entire week training with their club team! The sessions are challenging, but they love it.

Q: Are there any plans to expand in the near future?

R: Absolutely! Our plan is to be the number one football development program in Canada. We’re not looking to become an academy or club. We want to offer the highest quality football training, and make it accessible to every player who is striving to be the best possible footballer they can be.
